Introduce, mission

2017-06-20

Our nonprofit animal-welfare and animal rights advocacy group was founded in 2016 June. We are dedicated to rescue stray and non stray dogs - surrendered, injured by road accidents, abuse or neglect in the greater Nograd area in Hungary. We also save mentally or physically tortured dogs from the streets or occasionally from their owners. Our mission is to provide hope and a second chance for these mistreated, neglected, abandoned or occasionally abused animals. Our organization helps the most helpless – namely, dogs we find injured by the side of the road, dogs we find sick, or newly abandoned puppies. We nurse each and every animal back to life, and then house them in our shelter while we try to re-home them. In addition, the members of the organization and our volunteers use all forms of media such as TV, radio, newspaper, newsletters and handouts to inform and educate the community about all aspects of animal care.

We do not own a shelter, instead we try to find foster homes for the stray animals in our care. Every year, we find new families for about 350 dogs and 30-50 cats; our very thorough adoption process leaves us extremely confident that each and every one of them is going to a wonderful new life. Those that do not find a home remain in dog hotels (the cost of those dog hotels ranges between 375.000 - 675.000 HUF a month), where our rescued dogs receive daily food and water, and where we try our best to socialize them and give them the best life possible. On top of housing and re-homing dogs, our very important goal is to sterilize the ones already in our care and in our immediate area, as well. The cost of neutering a dog or cat at a low-cost clinic can range from 15.000 -25.000 HUF, depending on the weight of the dog. The cost of spaying, a more complicated surgery, usually costs about 32.000 HUF. On top of the cost of sterilization, we are committed to help implant microchip in those animals. The cost of this procedure can be anywhere from 5.000 - 10.000 HUF.

We also support families with dogs or cats that are in need of financial assistance and can not afford to provide their animals basic food, microchip or occasional urgent veterinary care. Often animals are put down or suffer needlessly because their owners cannot afford expensive surgery or vet visits. We have already sterilized 23 dogs and 9 cats until June, 2017 to prevent and eliminate unwanted litters, animals. Animal shelters all around Hungary are overburdened with surplus animals. There is much more to be done. Our only utmost goal is to bring animals from crisis to care and to strengthen the bond between people and domesticated animals, but everything comes at a cost. Although we are compassionate and dedicated to protecting any animals, our finances are very limited and it often happens that we put ourselves in debt. We are extremely grateful though for our dedicated donors, big and small. We can not be thankful enough for our supporters who have been sponsoring dogs at a distance, and to those who have adopted our dogs into their loving homes.

We are very proud to be nominated for an award by the local government of Balassagyarmat in honor of our relentless work to save the lives of dogs and cats of all ages, breeds, sizes, and conditions that have suffered from neglect, cruelty, abandonment.
